Some M-Audio/Midiman USB MIDI and Audio devices require a firmware download before an operating system driver (e.g. ALSA's snd-usb-audio) can access them.

The MidiSport Firmware Loader can be found at http://usb-midi-fw.sourceforge.net/ , but is also packaged for various distributions:

Note that some devices, such as the MidiSport 2x2 Anniversary Edition and the KeyStation 49e, work out of the box and do not require a firmware loader.
